Thimpu is the capital city of Bhutan and is regarded as the economic centre of the country. Ranging at an altitude of 2,248 meters, Thimpu is the largest city of Bhutan with an estimated population of around 1.15 lakhs. The city is popular among tourists for its spectacular natural scenery, rich culture and diverse traditions. Thimpu is home to some of the oldest monuments and temple complexes that date back to the 14th century. Thimpu is also popular for hosting Thimpu Tshechu, a festival held to celebrate the birth of Guru Rinpoche.
