Gurudongmar Lake is the most sacred and pristine lake in Sikkim and is also a pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist devotees. Located in the northern part of the state the lake ranges at an elevation of 17,000 ft above sea level the lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains of the Kanchenjunga range. The lake has gotten its name from the name of Guru Padmasambhava who is believed to have blessed a part of the lake that is never frozen even during the winters.
