Ghoom is regarded as the home to the Buddhist sites one of which is Ghoom Monastery, Regarded as one of the oldest monasteries of Darjeeling. Constructed by Shokpo Sherab Gyatso in the year 1850, the monastery is also known as Yiga Choeling Tibetan Monastery. The monastery has the capacity to accommodate around 60 monks and is among the largest monasteries in Ghoom that attracts tourists with its unique architecture gold-painted statues embossed with precious stones. The site also houses Tibetan translations of the famous Sanskrit texts and Buddhist manuscripts.
