Day 1

Arrival at Paro and reaching Thimphu

Start your exploration with Paro to Thimphu- After arriving at the Paro International Airport prepare yourself to witness the most attractive drive of your lifetime from Paro to Thimphu. You will be accompanied by attractive mountains and refreshing rivers on your journey. It takes about an hour and a half to reach the country’s capital.

After you reach Thimphu you can stay at a relaxing hotel and spend the day resting to prepare your body for future exploration. You can also explore some places in Thimphu after proper resting such as Thimphu Dzong, Memorial Chorten and lastly the Great Buddha Dordenma where you can witness the beautiful sunset.

Day 2

Drive to Punakha after sightseeing in Thimphu

You can dig deep into the Bhutanese culture by exploring the top attractions of Thimphu. You can spend half of your day around the city visiting places such as the museum, monasteries, convents and an indigenous medicine hospital. You cannot miss the wildlife sanctuary and the bustling weekend market on your trip.

After your explorations, you can travel straight to the town of Punakha which will take you almost 3 hours. The road here is covered with dense forest and it climbs up to the Dochu La Pass which is situated at an elevation of 10,000 feet. After reaching Punakha you can visit the famous Punakha Dzong.

Day 3

Explore the Dochu La Pass and Punakha

You can go for a short hike to the temple of Chimi Lhakhang after waking up early. This temple is dedicated to the Buddhist leader known as DrukpaKunley and is also known as the “fertility temple”. The phallic imagery filled here is believed to drive away evil spirits.

The Bhutanese couple who wish to have a child visits this temple. While you drive back from the Dochu La Pass you will be able to witness the panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Day 4

Hike to Paro Taktsang

You have to dedicate your day 4 completely to embarking on the full-day hike to the most iconic monastery which is the Tiger’s Nest. You have to climb up a steep path to reach this 17th-century temple complex. If you don’t feel tired from this hike you can travel further to explore some other off-beat monasteries while enjoying the amazing view of the Paro Valley and can finally stop at Khyichu Lhakhang which is the oldest temple of Bhutan.

Day 5

Departure

You can spend your last morning in this beautiful country by leisurely exploring Paro Valley. You can roam around the National Museum and also visit the Rinpung Dzong or even explore the Dumtse Lhakhang and witness some of the finest murals of the country after which you can head towards the airport to catch your flight.
